2016 Azalea Disc Dog International Qualifier Comes to Tyler

(Tyler) – PetsFurPeople of Tyler is bringing top Disc Dogs to Tyler for a two day meet – the first time this event has been held in East Texas. “We are so excited,” said Bill McFarlin, renowned dog trainer. “My dog Ziva is an exciting competitor and we love this sport. We wanted to bring an event here so everyone could see the fun and skills these dog athletes show on the field.”

Over 50 top ranked dogs are expected to compete. Disc Dogs compete on a national circuit to earn points for their ranking. Until now these events in Texas are only in Dallas and Houston. It is fun…but the dogs are serious competitors.

“They just love to play,” said Mr. McFarlin. “All of these dogs are ready to go and know when it’s time to show their skills.”

At the event, the dogs compete in six events including the crowd favorite, “Freestyle”. The audience will also select the winner of the People’s Choice Award.

“This is a great event for families,” said Gayle Helms. “The crowd will get to see the dogs perform, then go to the handlers’ tents to meet the dogs, ask questions, and take pictures of their favorites. We are especially encouraging families and youth groups to enjoy the weekend – but we know everyone will be thrilled to see these amazing dogs.”

The competition will run from 9am to 4pm Saturday at Tyler’s Lindsey Park. Admission is by donation. Details about the event are posted at PetsFurPeople.org, and a special event page is on PetsFurPeople’s Facebook page.

PetsFurPeople is the only brick-and-mortar animal shelter in East Texas. PetsFurPeople is a no-kill shelter, supported entirely by private donations.
